Based on the passage of SB 760, beginning January 1, 2025, the state of Maryland will require an individual seeking certification as a security guard to satisfactorily complete 12 hours of initial security training and individuals requesting renewal of security guard certification to satisfactorily complete 8 hours of continuing security training. These training courses must be approved by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission.
Security Guard Applicants will be required to submit documentation of satisfactory completion of the mandatory security training with their original and renewal applications.
12-Hours Security Guard Initial Training Program
12-Hours Initial Security Guard Training is for individuals seeking initial certification as a security guard.
Maryland requires 12 hours of initial training for all security guards.
Cassamajor Protective & Investigation instructors are authorized by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission staff to provide approved security guard continuing training for America’s growing security guard professionals.
All courses are tailored to address current threats and educational demands.
Upon successful completion of this course, a certificate of completion will be provided as supporting documentation that demonstrates successful completion of the mandated training.
Attendees must attend both days of training to obtain certificate.

8-Hours Security Guard In-Service Training Program
This training has been designed for security guards who have a CURRENT Security Guard Certification and fulfills the mandated continuing training requirement for subsequent renewal application requests.
This training program is authorized by the by Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission staff as approved security guard continuing training.
Maryland requires 8 hours of continuing training for all licensed security guards.

This course covers the training mandates required through State regulations.
Our security guard training programs are designed to assist in developing an enhanced security posture to fulfill the needs of our clients and communities served.

Maryland Wear and Carry Permit Training
Wear and Carry Permit training is a 2-day course with 16 hours of instruction. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence.
Topics include safe gun handling when carrying a concealed firearm, basic principles of concealment, drawing from concealment, levels of mental awareness, developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection, clearing common stoppages, reloading, defensive pistol skills, state firearm law, use of force laws, pistol nomenclature, selecting a pistol for self-defense, ammunition knowledge, and defensive ammunition.
HQL – Maryland Handgun Qualification License Training
A Handgun Qualification License is required to purchase, rent, or receive a handgun in Maryland.
The HQL training course is 8 hours of instruction that covers state firearm law, safe firearm handling and storage, handgun mechanisms and operation, and ammunition, followed by a live fire exercise that demonstrates your ability to safely fire a handgun. PLEASE NOTE: If you have a Maryland Medical Marijuana Card, you are ineligible to receive a Handgun Qualification License (HQL) in the State of Maryland. Please do not register for the course.
Handcuffing/Baton/OC-Spray
Baton and OC-Spray are both intermediate sources of compliance. In this portion of the course, students learn how to deploy these weapons and use them within the force continuum. Students will be taught proper deployment and utilization of intermediate weapons and liabilities for misuse. Students will receive a certificate upon completion of the 8-hour course and practical exercises. This course are recommended for all Armed Security Officer.
NRA Basic Pistol
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is a great way for you to learn the basics of pistol shooting. The course is 4 hours of instruction that covers safe firearm handling and storage, handgun mechanisms and operation, ammunition, and state firearm law. Students will learn shooting fundamentals using dry-fire laser training as well as live-fire exercises.
Students will receive NRA’s new Basics of Pistol Shooting booklet, Marksmanship Qualification Program booklet, and NRA Gun Safety Rules Card. They will also receive a certificate of completion.
